The book received rave reviews when it first came out and also won the American Caddick Award. Of course, there is no end to criticism of this book. Over the years, some readers have been questioning Daddy Duck "Mr. Mara" as an idle and incompetent father. But the fathers of the wild ducks do leave the work of caring for the ducklings to the mother ducks, and leave by themselves. Therefore, the details of this bird's behavior are accurate depictions of nature and McCloskey just obeyed the laws of nature. In the latter scene, the reunion of the duck family won the hearts of the children, because when the book was first published, it coincided with the Second World War and many children were forced to separate from their fathers. Therefore, this ending touched the hearts of many.
In 1987, during the 150th-anniversary celebration of the Boston Common, sculptor Nancy Schon placed a bronze statue of "Mrs. Mara" and her famous family not far from the iron fence. This door is also famous because of this book. On holidays, hundreds of children would run to touch these bronze sculptures. Now, these brightly touched bronze sculptures are like an immortal monument, praising the immortal charm of the book "Make Way for Ducklings".
